New Delhi, April 22, 2010: Jain scholar Dr.Anupam Jain was conferred with Siddantha Chakravarthi Acharya Sri Nemichandra Award in a function held at Kunda Kunda Bharathi, New Delhi. The function was held in the presence of His Holiness Elacharya Vidyanandaji Maharaj. The award constituted in memory of Seth Sri Nemichandji Zaveri and Smt Shanthidevi Jain coupe by their family consists of a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh, citation and the award.
The award constituted in the year 2007, had been conferred to Pandit Sri Prabhakaracharya (Shravanabelaola), Dr.S.P.Patil (Dharwar) and Dr.Versagar Jain (Delhi). Shravanabelagola (Hassan District, Karnataka), 28 March 2010: Sri Gommatesha Vidyapeetha AWards constituted by the Shravanabelagola Jain Mutt in memory of the 1000th Year of Bahubali consecration in 1981 was conferred upon 9 individuals on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanthi. DR.M.A.JAYACHANDRA GETS CHAVUNDARAYA AWARD |
Bangalore (Karnataka), 15 April 2010: Dr.M.A.Jayachandra has been awarded the coveted 'Chavundaraya Award' for his life time contribution to Jainism and the over all development of Jain literature in Kannada. Dr.Jayachandra, has contributed immensly in the field of Jain folklore (Janapada) since the past four decades and has authored a book titled Janapada Kathamrutha (2 Volumes), 115 short Jain folk stories, Jain Folk songs and others. He has been a part of the Institute of Prakrit Studies and Research, Shravanabelagola since 2002 and has been the editor of the non Dhavala works, coordinator of the Jaya Dhaval publication and has been the head of Prakrit examination.

'BUTCHER' TO GET MAHAVEER AWARD

Chennai (Tamilnadu), 23 Dec, 2009: He hails from a family of butchers. But instead of killing animals, he helps protect them. His organisation, “People who care for animals,’’ has rescued thousands of cattle from illegal slaughterhouses in Thane and adjoining areas.
Recognising his noble work, Thane-based Mohammed Abrar Qureshi, 52, was on Tuesday chosen to receive the 13th Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation award for Excellence in the sphere of non-violence and vegetarianism. The award, which has a cash component of Rs 5 lakh and a citation, would be presented at a function in city in January.
N Sugalchand Jain, managing trustee of the city-based foundation, said the jury headed by Justice M N Venkatachaliah, former Chief Justice of India, and seven others selected Qureshi for the award for his concern and love for animals.
Qureshi, who chose not to take up butchery, earned the wrath of a few for his love for animals. Attempts were made on his life and both his legs were broken in one such attempt, Jain informed.
The other awardees are Tribal Health Initiative, Dharmapuri, TN (for excellence in the sphere of education and medicine), Sri Karni Nagar Vikas Samiti, Kota, Rajasthan and Swami Vivekananda Integrated Rural Health Centre, Pavagada, Karnataka (both for excellence in the spheres of community and social service).

‘AMRIT DHARA' BOOK BY DIG AWARDED |

VEERENDRA HEGGADE GETS BASAVA SRI AWARD

BANGALORE, May 2, 2009: The Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Veerendra Heggade was conferred with Basava Sri Award by Basava Vedike here on Friday while the Vachana Sahitya Sri Award was presented to Pandit Venkatesh Kumar for popularising the Vachanas of Saint Basaveshwara.
Receiving the award at the Basava Jayanti celebrations from Suttur Math seer Shivarathi Deshikendra Swamiji, Dr. Heggade, in his acceptance speech, said: “I am very happy to receive the award. Getting any award is a matter of great pride. I can only say that I am honoured to receive it from the swamiji (Sri Deshikendra Swamiji).”
On Saint Basaveshwara, he said: “Basavanna preached values in a very simple form through his verses. Though his preaching are as old as 800 years, he is still alive for those few people who follow his ideals and principles.”
“I take great pride in saying that I started a rural development programme that benefits seven lakh people in seven districts. Beneficiaries were able to get employment and were able to support their families,” he added.
The Vachana Sahitya Sri Award-recipient Venkatesh Kumar said: “I thank my Guru Puttaraj Gavai for all his guidance, without which I would not have been standing amongst you all today. Though I come from a ‘musical background’, only through hard work and dedication, I have become successful. Getting this prestigious award encourages me to perform better.”

N K JAIN TO GET RASHTRIYA RATTAN AWARD

Ludhiana, May 23, 2009:
Nand Kumar Jain, president of S S Jain School Committee, has been selected for the Rashtriya Rattan Award instituted by Citizens' Integration Peace Society, New Delhi. His name has been shortlisted for his outstanding services in the field of education.
Talking to Indian Express, Jain said, "The announcement of this award has come as a surprise to me. I have been serving this management for 25 years. I started serving as a member to this management." The committee headed by him runs Jain Public Senior Secondary School, Jain Girls' Sen Sec School, Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women and DD Jain College of Education and Atam Devki School. He said that a hospital was also started under his guidance near Neem Wala Chowk which has been doing very well.
A commerce graduate of 1977 from SCD Government College for Boys, Jain opted his family business of jewellery. He said, "My future plan is to provide more educational institutes in the city, where poor and needy children may study. Last year, we provided free of education to about 200 children."
