10TH JAIN PRATIBHA SAMMAN AT SHRAVANABELAGOLA
GYANASAGARJI CALLS YOUTH TO FOLLOW ANUVRATAS

Shravanabelagola (Hassan District, Karnataka), 29 December: Upadhyay 108 Sri Gyanasagarji Maharaj called upon the youths to follow the 5 Anuvratas preached in Jainism for their over all personality development. He opined that preaching the 5 Anuvrats (viz, Satya, Ahimsa, Achourya, Aparigraha and Brahmacharya) to the youth will help them in building their personality and there by help them in becoming responsible citizens. He was speaking on the occasion of the 10th all India Jain Pratibha Samman Programme organised at Shravanbegola from 28th to 30th of December 2009. He further called upon the parents to make sure they preach their children these Panchanuvratas. He opined that these Panchanuvratas are like panchakalyanas to the youth.

108 Muni Sri Pramukhsagarji Maharaj, 108 Muni Sri Samyamsagarji Maharaj, 105 Aryika Sri Shivamathi Mathaji, 105 Kshullika Sri Padmashri Mathaji, Swasti Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji of the Shravanabelagola Jain Mutt, Swasti Sri Bhanukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji of the Kambadahalli Jain Mutt and Vicharapatta Kshullaka Sri Dharmakeerthi Swamiji were present on the occasion.

The all India Jain Pratibha Samman Programme is an annual event managed by Sri Digambar Jain Sanghatan of Suryanagar, Gaziabad since the past 10 years under the guidance of Upadyay 108 Sri Gyanasagarji Maharaj. Students who have secured more than 90% of marks in the class 10th and class 12th exams from all over India are invited to a Jain Heritage Centre and will be felicitated under the presence and guidance of Sri Gyanasagarji Maharaj. This is a three day event with the other two days focused on career counselling to the youths. More than 400 Jain Youths from across India attend the event held at Shravanabelagola.

56TH JANMA JAYANTHI OF ACHARYA SRI PUSHAPDANTHA SAGARJI MAHARAJ
Shravanabelagola (Hassan District, Karnataka), 1 January: The 56th Janma Jayanthi of His Holiness 108 Acharya Sri Pushpadanthasagarji Maharaj was celebrated at Shravanabelagola on the 31st December 2009 and 1st January 2010. The proceedings were held under the guidance of His Holiness 108 Upadhyay Sri Gyanasagarji Maharaj, 108 Muni Sri Pramukhsagarji Maharaj and Swasti Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji of the Shravanabelagola Jain Mutt. The celbrations began with Gurubhakti on 31st evening followed luterary functions. Later in the night many deepas were lit and special arathi was performed to the 24 Tirthankaras at Bhandari Basadi. On 1st January Pada Pooja to Lord Bahubali on the Indragiri Hillock, Argya Samarpana to the 24 Tirthankaras at Bhandari Basadi and vinayanjali programmes were held. - Jain Heritage Centres News Service
DALAILAMA VISITS JAIN TEMPLE TOWN OF PALITANA
Bhavnagar (Gujarat), 3 January (PTI): Tibetan spiritual leader The Dalai Lama today visited the Jain pilgrimage town of Palitana near here and delivered a religious discourse along with Jain scholars."The 20th century belonged to science and technology. The present 21st century would belong to spirituality and non-violence," Dalai Lama told reporters.He said Jainism and Buddhism are in the forefront for promoting peace and non-violence around the world."Jainism and Buddhism are like twins who have brought along with them the message of oneness and non-violence for the world," he said.Dalai Lama also visited a camp for the physically challenged where over 25,000 disabled people are being treated free of cost.The camp, called 'Mobility Camp' being held in Palitana began on December 23 and would continue till January 9.He later visited the Jain temples in Palitana town and interacted with Jain scholars. - News Courtesy: PTI
LAKSHADEEPOTSAVA AT MOODABIDRI
Moodabidri (Mangalore District), 24 December 2009: Various rituals including rishimandala vidhana and others were held at Thousand Pillars temple, here on Friday December 25. On the same day a religious discourse was organised at 7.30 pm. Veteran scholar Chandrashekar Damle was the key speaker.on the occasion. MLA Abayachandra Jain, former state minister K Amarnath Shetty and K P Jagdish Adikari were the chief guests. Sri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji of the Moodabidri Jain Mutt delivered a religious discourse on the occasion. Uttamchand Jain presided over the programme.The cultural programmes were conducted from 9.00 pm onwards by the artistes of Davalatraya Trust and Alva’s Education Foundation. RS. 20 CRORES RELEASED FOR DRINKING WATER
FACILITIES AT SAMMEDHA SHIKHARJI
Girdi (Jharkhand), January 15: The Jharkhand state Government has released a sum of Rs. 20 Crores for providing drinking water facilities to Tirtharaj Sri Sammedha Shikharji. SRI VEERAKUMAR PATIL RE-ELECTED TO LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
Belagaum (Karnataka), 21 December: Sri Veerakumar Patil has been re-elected as the Member of the Legislative Council for the upper house - Vidhana Parishta of Karnataka. It is the third time that he has been elected as the member of this Legislative constituency. He will represent the elected representatives of the local bodies from Belgaum district in the Karnataka Legislative council. THEFT AT VAISHALI JAIN TEMPLE

Vasundara (New Delhi), 31 December: While the entire world was getting ready to celebrate the arrival of new year the members of the Vaishali Jain Samaj were in a state of shock. This was bacuse of the theft that happend at the Vaishali Digambar Jain temple on the late night hours of 30th December and early morning hours of 31st December, 2009. NEETU CHANDRA LAUNCHES 'GO-VEGETARIAN' CAMPAIGN
Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 23 December 2009: Vegetarianism is gaining popularity of late with the rapid increase in ailments resulting from excessive non-vegetarian intake. It is a cause strongly taken up by Influence, among the finest vegetarian fine dining restaurants in Chennai. They have been propagating vegetarianism for quite some time now and have always taken it upon themselves to spread this message through various initiatives.
To take this initiative forward, Influence launched the ‘Go-Vegetarian’ moment on Sunday in the presence of Mr. Naresh Jain and Ms. Varsha Jain, the promoters of Influence Restaurant and Spa and other prominent personalities from Chennai. Prominent Bollywood-Kollywood actress Neetu Chandra, who is championing this cause, graced the occasion with her presence and launched the ‘Green Card’, a vegetarianism membership card for like-minded people who have chosen to go vegetarian. The card would entitle the dinner to a discount of 15% on the total bill at the restaurant and spa. KANNADA FILM PRODUCER CHANDULAL JAIN PASSES AWAY
Bangalore (Karnataka) , 18 December 2009: Popular Kannada film producer Chandulal Jain, who has contributed hit movies like Bhoothayyana Maga Ayyu, Bhaktha Siriyal, Thabbali Ninade Magane, Godhooli, Veerapan, Gangavva Gangamai, Hemavathi, Praya Praya Praya and Bethale Pooje, has passed away at 9.45 am on December 17 2009. He is survived by his wife Leela and sons Rajkumar and Rohith.Earlier this year, Chandulal Jain had celebrated his 74th birthday along with his 50th marriage anniversary in January. He had expressed his dream of producing a movie called Videshi on the occasion. He was very dedicated to Kannada film industry. Even Dr. Rajkumar was surprised at his love for Kannada Cinema and had given his call-sheet to him for the hit movie Thaayi Devaru. The producer believed in the principle ‘simple living and high thinking’. Even though he had produced big Kannada movies, he never thought of constructing a house for himself. Mourning his death, Kannada producer Sa.Ra. Govindu said, “Chandulal's death is an unbearable loss to the industry.” Another producer KCN Chandrashekhar said, "Jain's death has created a big void in the industry." ATTOLIGE ABHISHEKA PERFORMED AT LEPPADA BASADI

Moodabidri (Mangalore District, Karnataka) , 17 December 2009: A rare religious pooja called as the Attolige Abhisheka was performed to Sri Chandranatha Tirthankara at Leppada Basadi in Moodbidri. Attolige is a 25 to 30 feet wooden scaffolding built around the Thirthankara idol in the shape of a chariot (Ratha). It will be decorated with flags made of different colours and flowers. The devotees offer pooja to the Tirthankara idols standing on the Attolige. Leppada basadi said to have been built during the 14th century has the idol of Bhagawan Chandranatha in the padmasana as the main deity. We can also find the idol of goddess Jwalamalini in this temple. One of the uniqueness of this temple is the tirthankara idol made of Leppa (a special form of mud). - Jain Heritage Centres News Service

NEW JAIN MILAN BRANCHES AT MYSORE & HALAGA

Mysore (Karnataka): A new Jain Milan branch to be called as 'Vardhaman Jain Milan' was inaugurated at Mysore. This branch has been formed to unite the Jain families of Vijayanagar and Hinkal area of Mysore. Sri Navaratnamal Jain and Sri S.D.Mahendra Kumar took the oath of office as president and Secratary respectively.

Halaga (Belgaum District): A new Jain Milan branch was inagurated recenlty at Halaga a remote village in Belgaum district. This has been inaugurated with an intention of uniting and providing a platform for the Jains of Halaga village. - Jain Heritage Centres News Service

CD 'SRI JWALAMALINI GANA SUDHA' RELEASED
Narasimharajapura (Chikkamagalur District, Karnataka): A compact disc (CD) enclosing the songs of Goddess Sri Jwalamalini titled 'Sri Jwalamalini Ganasudha' was released by His Holiness Swasti Sri Lakshmisena Bhattarakha Swamiji of the Narasimharajapura Jain Mutt.
