Idar

    Idar was a chief Jain centre and even to this day we can see a sizable Jain population with the presence of Digambar and Swethambar Jain temple.

    Adinath Digambar Jain Temple –Has the black-colored idol of Tirthankar Adinath in Padmasana as the main deity.

    Shambavanath Digambar Jain Temple – Has the black-colored idol of Tirthankar Shambavanth in Padmasana as the main deity.

    Parshwanath Digambar Jain – Has the ashtadatu idol of Lord Parshwanath in padmasana along with choubis as the main deity. This was also the centre of Bhattarakha seat. It also houses a very well organised library of ancient Jain Manuscripts.

    Shanthinath Jain Temple

    • Main Deity – About 27 inches high, white colored idol of Bhagawan Shantinatha in the Padmasana posture.
    • History – This temple on the fort was built by king Samprati with the idol of Tirthankar Shantinatha as the main deity. We can also find 52 Jain idols in the temple. King Kumarpal renovated the temple and installed the idol of Bhagawan Adinatha. This temple was renovated in the year 1970 by Acharya Labdhasurishvarji. Also we can find a Digamabar temple on the hill. In the village of Idar, there are five Swetambara temples and three Digambara temples. On the Ghantio hill at a distance of two kilometers, Shrimad Rajchandraji had practiced spiritual exercises and attained knowledge. On this hill there is a temple with Bhagawan Munisuvrata as the main deity. A fair is held here every year on the fifteenth day of the bright half of the months of Kartik and Chaitra.
    • How to Reach – The temple is in the middle of the hill at a distance of one kilometer from the Idar village and one and a half kilometers from the foot of the hill. Idar is on Ahmedabad-Khedbrahma Road. The palace can be found on the way to the temple. This fort is known as the Idario fort. Lodging and boarding facilities are available in the Idar village.
