Chamarajanagara

    History – We can find two Jain temples at Chamarajanagara. Both the temples have the idols of bhagawan Parshwanatha as the main diety. One temple is situated near the private bus stand called as the Vijaya Parshwanatha temple. The idol, of Bhagawan Parshwanatha here is about 5 feet high in the padmasana posture. An inscription of the year 1116 A.D. in this temple says that this temple belongs to the 12th century and was built by a person named Punasimaiah. Punasimiah was the military chief of the Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana. The other temple is also of Bhagawan Parshwanatha and is situated in the Jain’s street of Chamarajanagara. The Mahavir Bhavan constructed in the year 1973 besides this temple gives the boarding and lodging facilities to the visitors.

    How to Reach – Chamarajanagara is situated at a distance of 61 kms from Mysore and 198 Kms from Bangalore.
