Avanti

    History – This city was previously called as Avantika Puskararanjini. Avanti Sukumar took diksha and attained salvation from this place by meditation. His son Mahakal under the guidance of Arya Suhastisurishvarji, built this temple in memory of his father. The history of this place is more than 2500 years old. Many Acharyas contributed to the history of this place. The present idol of Bhagawan Parshwanatha was made by king Chandrapradyot from sandal wood. In the due course of time when this place was under the hands of Shaiva kings, Acharya like Siddhasen Diwakara composed the very impressive Kalyan Mandir Stotra against the wish of the king. Under its influence, a beautiful idol of Bhagawan Parshvanath appeared from the lustrous idol of shiva and the Jain religion gained prominence. In the seventh century of the Vikrama era, Acharya Mantungasuri composed the Bhaktramar stotra and gained appreciation from king Bhoj. During the eleventh century, Shantisuriji defeated 84 disputants in the kingdom and gained honour and appreciation from the king. Thus many stories regarding the spread of the Jain religion are associated with this place. We can find 25 more Jain temples in Ujjain.

    How to Reach – Ujjain is at a distance of 56 kilometers from Indore. Boarding and lodging facilities are available at this place. Buses and private vehicles are available.

    Main Deity – 4 feet high, black colored idol of Bhagawan Avanti Parshwanatha in the Padmansana posture.
