Mahavirji

    History – The idol of Bhagawan Mahavir installed here is said to have been found in a hill. A story related to the origin of this idol runs as follows. A tanners cow was not giving milk for many days. Totally confused by this the on searching the reason he came to know that the cow was standing on a hill and milk used to ooze out from the cow without any human effort. Amazed by this the tanner decided to dig the area of the hill where the cows were delivering the milk. To his astonishment on digging, he found the idol of Bhagawan Mahavira. Hearing at this news people from different parts of the country came here and built the temple. People believe that on visiting this temple they can fulfil their wishes. Impressed by the miracles of the idol the then kings of Jaipur donated generously for the improvement of the pilgrim centre. The annual fair is held here from the thirteenth day of the bright half of the month of Chaitra to the first day of the dark half of the month of Vaishakh.

    How to Reach – The temple is situated in the Chandanpur village on the bank of the Gambhir river. The nearest railway station of Mahavirji (Chandanpur) is 7 kilometers from Chandanpur. It is at a distance of 175 kilometers from JaIpur. All the major trains on Delhi-Mumbai line stops here. Good boarding and lodging and facilities are available at this place.

    Main Deity – Nearly 78 cms. high, copper – colored idol of Bhagawan Mahavir Swami in the Padmasana posture.
