Eight-day Jain Mahotsav kicks off in Ahmedabad

    Ahmedabad (Gujarat), March 17, 2012: To mark the birth and renunciation of Adinath Bhagwan, eight day celebrations are being held in the city which kicked off from Thursday. Various art and cultural events will be taking place for the celebrations, which is considered to be the biggest ever Jain Mahotsav. Internationally acclaimed, India’s only Classical Fusion Vocal, ‘Laher Group’ will perform on Saturday at Sanskar Kendra at 6.30 pm.

    Eminent musicians and artists such as Purbayan Chatterjee (Sitar), Ravichandra Kulur (Flute), Jaychandrao (Mridangam), RatanBharti (Hawaiian Guitar), Satyajit Talawarkar (Tabla), Tajesh Vaid (Rudraveena), Dilshad Khan (Sarangi) and Partha Sarthi Desikan (cultural classical singer) shall perform.

    On Sunday, Classical dance maestro Padmavibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj will perform at Sanskar Kendra at 6 pm. Birju Maharaj will present a special dance drama on one holy and important episode of Jain mythology ‘Shree Bharateshwar and Shree Bahubaliji’. It is believed that this is for the first time that Pandit Birju Maharaj is performing on a special dance drama at a religious event. – News Courtesy: DNA India
