Jains demand holiday on Mahavir Jayanti

Patna (Bihar), December 10, 2011: City’s Jain community has expressed reservations against the non-inclusion of Tirthankar Mahavir Jayanti in the list of government public holidays in 2012. The new list of holidays has been recently declared by the Bihar government.

Jain Sangh secretary Pradeep Jain said, “Mahavir Jayanti used to be a declared public holiday by the state government till a few years ago.”

“It is unfortunate that we are compelled to request the government for declaration of holiday on such an occasion,” he added.

The community has sent a letter to CM Nitish Kumar for immediate necessary action in this regard. – News Courtesy: Times News Network
