History - Though there is no Jain temple at present, this place has historical importance for Jain religion as the famous Adipuran by Shri Gunbhadraacharaya, a disiple of Acharaya jinsena, was composed here. this place derives its name bankapur after the name of jain king Bankerayas. the jain temples were converted into masjid by the invaders.

Guidance - This place is 36 kms from laksheshwar.Bankapur is on the way to Sirsi via Hanagal- Santekop and Aatur.
