History - Though there is no Jain temple at present, this place has historical importance for Jain religion as the famous Adipuran by Shri Gunbhadraacharaya, a disiple of Acharaya jinsena, was composed here. this place derives its name bankapur after the name of jain king Bankerayas. the jain temples were converted into masjid by the invaders.Guidance - This place is 36 kms from laksheshwar.Bankapur is on the way to Sirsi via Hanagal- Santekop and Aatur.
