CHICKKAHANASOGE

Main Deity- An idol of bhagwan Vrishabanatha.

History- Chickkahanasoge is one of the ancient Jain centres. It bears the glorious religious tradition dating back to mythological era. Shri Ramachandra has santified the place by his visit. He initiated the construction of the Jain temples as believed by the sentimental religious persons. The royal dynasties mentioned to have ruled the place include Gangas, Cholas, Chengalvas, Kongalvas and also Hoysalas. who had reins over this place during different times. They excised domain and for the cause of religious atonment. This is also the place where many wars were waged by the kingdoms and hence was one of the strong holds of Karnataka. One of the inscriptions mentions that chola king bestowed Panchamalya who donated a place called Malangi. Hence Panchamalya is also called as great Kongalva warrior. Though the Cholas defeated Gangas in the begining,  the Hoysal kings defeated the the Cholas. Chengalvas ruled the place as savants from 11th century to 16th century AD. This place was the capital of Chengalvas. The river Cauvery flows aside Chickkahanasoge.

Chickkahanasoge was one of the important places with the Jain muth having its influence on the Jain saints. The Jain muth here was once continiously active with its various subbranches. In an inscription of 16th century mentions that the religious head of the muth was called Charukeerthi Pandithadevaru. Further in an inscription found near the Chaturmukha basadi mentions that Dhansala muth of Karkala (Dakshina Kannada) was its branch. Shri Lalithakeerthi Bhattarakha pattacharya belonged to the deshiyagana of Hanasoge.

Vrishabanatha temple of the place contributes o the main attraction of Hanasoge. It is a Trikutachala Adinatha on the west, Shanthinatha on the south and Sri Neminatha on the north. This temple was said to be constructed by Chengalva commander in chief of Rajendra chola 11th century. The temple is an ammalgamation of both Chalukya and Hoysala style of archietecture. The florid carvings along with yakshas and yakshis and lions draw the attention of the tourist. This temple has been renovated at various times by the devotees of Mysore and Saligrama.

Guidance- Chickkahanasoge is situated in the Chinchanakatte Hobli of K.R.Nagar taluk in the Mysore district. It is at a distance of 15 Kms from K.R.Nagar and 60 Kms from Mysore. Visitors can stay at Mysore.
