Main Deity- About 5 feet idol of Bhagwan Sri Parshwanatha.

 

History- Hassan is a city and a district Headquarters of Hassan District. It is situated at about 934 mts above sea level and is well know for its pleasant weather. It was founded in the 11th century, by Channa Krishnappa Naik, a Palegar (chieften). The place is called Hassan after the Goddess "Haasanamba", the goddess and presiding deity of the town.

Jain Temples - There are four Jain temples in Hassan the Dodda basadi, the Chickka basadi, the Mahavira temple and the Swethambara Jain temple.

Dodda Basadi - This 900 years old temple has the idol of Bhagwan Parshwanatha as the main deity. There is an idol of bhagawan Bahubali made out of white stone it is about 7 feet in height. We can also find the idol of Chaturmuka tirthankara, Brahmadeva and many small idols made from stone and diffrent metals. The metal idols of the Jaina Yakshis and Godess Saraswati found in the temple are worth seeing.

Chickka basadi - This temple has the idol of Bhagwan Parshwanatha is the main deity. We can find many small idols of other Jaina Gods made out of marble and different metals.

Swethambara Jain temple - This temple has Bhagawan Adinatha as the main deity with the idols of Nakoda and Niral Parshwanatha on its right and left respectively.

Mahavira temple - This temple was constructed in the year 2002 and the panchakalyana pratishta mahotsav was held under the guidance of Sri Devendrakerthi Bhattarakha Maharaj of the Huncha Jain Muth. This temple is situated in the premises of the Mahavira Bhavan in the Ravindranagar area.

Other Places of Interests at Hassan - Hasanamba Temple (Open only for a week during the Deepavali), Raghavendra Swamy Mutt, Sri Sringeri Shankar Mutt, Virupaksha Temple, Panduranga Temple, Sita Ramanuja Temple, Javanahalli Mutt, Chamundeshwari Temple.

 

Guidance- Hassan is 186 Kms from Bangalore and 110 Kms from Mysore. The boarding facilities are available in the Dharmashala in the Dodda basadi.
