KAMBADAHALLI

JAINISM IN INDIA > KARNATAKA > KAMBADAHALLI

Main Deities- Stone idols of Bhagawan Adinatha, Shanthinatha, Chandranatha and Neminatha.

History- We can find a huge Manasthambha at Kambadahalli. It is because of this huge pillar (Kambha) that Kambadahalli is said to have got its name. To the west of this Manasthambha we can find a group of 6 temples. We can find a Trikutachala temple of Bhagawan Adinatha, Neminatha and Shanthinatha. The carvings of flowers and animals in these temples are very attractive. The pinnacles of these temples are very attractive, built in the Vesara, Nagara and Dravida style of architecture, this kind of architecture cannot be found in the whole of South India.  We can find two Jain temples in front of the Trikutachala. These five temples together are called as Panchakuta. At a certain distance from here we can find the Bhagawan Shanthinatha temple with the 12 feet high idol of Shanthinatha as the main deity. The Bhattaraka peeta that was redundant for more than 300 years was revived in 1998 with Swasti Sri Bhanukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji as the pontiff. Inscriptions at Kambadahalli indicate that more than 9 Bhattarakas of the Digambara ascetic order have adorned this peetha. There is a legend that once there were more than 72 Jain temples at this place. Archeological sources confirm that Kambadahalli was previously known as Kambapuri.

Guidance- Kambadahalli is situated in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district at a distance of 18 kilometers from Shravanabelagola, 135 Kms from Bangalore, 85 Kms from Mysore and 15 Kms from Nagamangala.
