    Ahmedabad (Gujarat), September 18, 2012: Due to constant concrete efforts of UK’s Institute of Jainology, Shree Nemu Chandaria (UK) ,Padamshree Dr. Kumarpalji Desai and generous support of Ahmedabad’s Hon’ble Mayor,  finally Government has named a chowk at Ahmedabad (India) after Indian patriot Virchand Gandhi(1864-1901) who was possibly first gujarati youth to visit USA in 1893 for an international event .Virchand Gandhi represented Jainism and defended indian culture at this event and was equally famous as Swami Vivekanand and friend of Mahatma Gandhi.  Attached Photographs of “Chowk Naming Ceremony” of Virchand Raghavji Gandhi (VRG) Chowk  at Navrangpura Jn. Near Navrangpura Bus Stop  Ahmedabad City held on 18th September 2012 at 10.30 AM at the hands of  Hon’ble Shri Asitbhai Vora, Mayor of Ahmedabad  in the presence of  Padamshree Dr. Kumarpalbhai Desai, Shri Rakeshbhai Shah, MLA,(Alice Bridge Constituency of Ahmedabad City)  Shri Chandreshbhai Gandhi (Great Grand son of VRG) , Shri Maheshbhai Gandhi (person because of whom Govt. of India approved Virchand  Gandhi postal stamp proposal and issued stamps in past) , Smt. Preetiben Shah (Co-author of drama & book “Gandhi Before Gandhi”) , Shri Aravindbhai R. Doshi – (Trustee Bharat Varshiya Digamber Jain Tirth  Kshetra Trust Mumbai- a prominent leader of Digamber Jain Community and Industrialist -M/s. Premier Automobiles Ltd.), Shri Shreyanshbhai Shah Owner of M/s. Gujarat Samachar, a daily Newspaper published from Ahmedabad and Trustee Sankheshwar Parshwanath Tirth Pedhi  and other Jain  dignitaries

    Dr. Kumarpalbhai spoke on the life of VRG. A booklet on  VRG was released by Mayor .
    Shri Rakeshbhai Shah – MLA  also spoke about the role of Government in encouraging
    such Naming Ceremonies.  Hon’ble Mayor spoke  of the process at Corporation and how happy and lucky he was associating himself with such an event.  Shri Chandreshbhai spoke about how VRG name was  given  as “Virchand”. Shri   Maheshbhai proposed a vote of thanks .  Memento consisting of 4 (four) books :

    1. The Yogo  Philosophy – In English  by VRG
    2. The unknown life of Jesus Christ – Translated  from  French to English by VRG
    3. The Jaina Philosophy by VRG in English
    4. Bharathiya Sankruti  Atma  in Gujarati and
    5. Stamp released Album
    6. Folder with Stamp FDC
    7. Booklet on VRG
    8. A postcard “Peeping Window” on the life of VRG
      were  presented to the Hon’ble Guest  on the occasion.
