Ancient Parshwanath Tirthankar idol found at Kanakagiri

    An ancient idol of 23rd Jain Tirthankar Lord Parshwanath has been found at Kanakagiri in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, India.

    Kanakagiri (Chamarajanagar District, Karnataka), September 8, 2017: An ancient idol of Lord Parshwanath Tirthankar has been found in the middle of a field at a distance of 1 Km from Jain Siddha Kshetra Kanakagiri. The idol is about 3 feet high and is made of granite stone. The idol is in Kayotsarga (standing posture) has been flanked by Dharanendra Yaksha on the right and Padmavati Yakshi on the left. It has 7 hoods of the serpent above the head and behind the idol can be found attractive carvings in the form of an arch. The idol has been found when some land leveling work had been carried out with a JCB at around 3 pm today. It has been brought to the premises of Kanakagiri Jain Math. His Holiness Swasti Sri Bhuvanakeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji and others performed pooja to the idol. It has been kept in the premises of the Jain Math. His Holiness Swamiji has advised the people to do further exploration surrounding the place where the idol was found to check if few more Jain antiques could be discovered. – Nitin H.P, Jain Heritage Centres News Service
