Burglars loot Jain temple, break away with Rs 50K

    Sriperumbudur (Tamil Nadu), June 7, 2013: A few miscreants broke into a Jain temple in Sriperumbudur and stole 50,000 from the temple’s safe on Thursday night.

    Police said the burglars broke into the temple at TK Naidu Nagar after midnight. On Thursday night, the priest locked the temple and returned on Friday morning for a special pooja, but was shocked to find the lock broken. He called the police, who found the safe 300 metres away from the temple, with all the cash stolen.

    Police said temple thefts in and around Kancheepuram has gone up. They said that most of the robbers observe the temple a few days before striking.
