Grandeur marks Jains’ festival

    Grandeur marked the colourful procession taken out by the members of the local Jain community in the thoroughfares on the occasion of the ongoing Sumatinath Bhagawan idol consecration ceremony at the Jain temple in Mandapala Street in the city on Thursday.

    Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), June 21, 2012: Grandeur marked the colourful procession taken out by the members of the local Jain community in the thoroughfares on the occasion of the ongoing Sumatinath Bhagawan idol consecration ceremony at the Jain temple in Mandapala Street in the city on Thursday.

    Thousands of community members including women, both young and old and their religious heads took part in the procession which went through the important areas of the city. The process gave an opportunity to the denizens of Nellore to witness the tradition and culture of local Jain community who migrated to Nellore decades ago.

    The procession had horses, camels, chariots as well as an elephant in the forefront and they were mounted by the community men in attractive traditional attire.

    Youth of the community and artistes from various northern states danced to the rhythmic band music attracting the attention of everyone around.

    The procession began at Ayodhyanagari venue, which was readied for the occasion to conduct cultural programmes and discourses at Railway Feeders Road of the town took several hours to reach the Jain temple.

    Festival organising committee members led by Santhilal Jain took part in the procession.

    One of the organisers Rajendra Jain said that the festival will conclude with the idol installation ceremony slated for Friday at the Jain temple. – News Courtesy: The Hindu
