Jain rally in Kandivli promotes holy texts

Mumbai (Maharashtra), January 8, 2012: With an aim to spreading awareness about Aagams, canonical texts of Jainism based on Mahavira’s teachings, among people in the Jain community, a procession was undertaken in Kandivli on Sunday.

The rally, taken out from Kamlanagar to Mahavir Nagar via SV Road, saw enthusiastic participation from devotees, and was a precursor to an event organised to commence translation of 32 religious scriptures into English under the guidance of Gurudev Shree Namra Muni Maharaj Saheb, a Jain monk.

The event will be held on January 15 to mark the birth anniversary of Tap Samrat Ratilalji Maharaj Saheb, Namra Muni’s guru. An auspicious ‘Shrut Pujan’ will be conducted on the day to mark the occasion.

“A holy challenge is being taken up to spread the word about Lord Mahavira and his teachings. It is planned to translate the knowledge in the scriptures and make them available in 3,500 libraries across the world,” said Dharmesh Shah, a devotee of Gurudev Shree Namra Muni Maharaj Saheb.

Meanwhile, the devotees have also planned to hold an exhibition of various projects of the Aagams from today (January 9) onwards till January 15. – News Courtesy: DNA India
