Jain students feted for excellence in education

    Chennai (Tamil Nadu), July 2, 2013: In a first of its kind initiative, nearly 50 students from the Jain community were felicitated for excellence in education by the Bharathiya Jain Sangatana (BJS) and Sree Mahavir Jain Kalyan Sangh (SMJK).

    The awards were presented during an event held at the Gurushree Shantivijai Jain College for Women in the city recently.

    The event was to celebrate excellence in education by students from the community. Meritorious students who had secured high marks in their board exams and professionals who had graduated with a good score, were among those honoured.

    “The Jain community is not only known for wealth, but also for brilliance, and the main reason behind this is the hardworking parents,” said Prafulla Parekh, National Secretary and CEO of BJS, Pune.

    Speakers on the occasion laid stress on education and listed out the names of successful Jains across the globe who have scaled great heights in various fields. Also, the need for more entrepreneurs in the country and how the community itself is inclined towards entrepreneurship was pointed out.

    Asking students to set goals for themselves and work towards it, Abaykumarji Srisrimal, general secretary of S S Jain Educational Society, requested them to create wealth in society, which is very important for the growth of a country.

    Sudhirji Lodha, an entreprenuer, advised the students to “embrace technology, which rules the world in this era”. He also urged the community to get together and create a synergy, which could bring many changes in society.

    Apart from members of the BJS and SMJK, many Jain entrepreneurs like G R Surana, Chairman of Surana Group of Industries apart from Sudhirji Lodha, Member of State Minorities Commission, took part. – The New Indian Express
