‘Silent protest rally’ taken out

Bangalore (Karnataka), January 6, 2013: Members of the Digamber Jain Samaj took out a “silent protest rally” here on Sunday against what they termed as “untoward incidents” against members of the Jain community.

The protesters demanded quick action against those who defaced an idol of a Jain Tirthankara at Mandaragiri hillock, an ancient Jain heritage centre, in Tumkur district on Thursday.

The gate leading to the group of temples on the hillock has been dismantled, and the manasthamba on which the idol was installed was destroyed, the protesters said in a release.

They also condemned a similar attack on members of the community in Girnar, Gujarat. They said that their community members were stabbed while on a pilgrimage there on January 1. – News Courtesy: Times of India
