Stamps On Tirthankara Symbols

FIRST DAY & SPECIAL COVERS

This is a special cover by the Mangalore Philatelic Club. The picture is "Samavasarana" an oil painting by Manjayya Heggade.
This special cover was issued to mark the 2600th birth anniversary (Janma Kalyanak Mahotsav) of Bhagavan Mahavir. The occasion April 6, 2001 marked the beginning of a year long celebration.

This cover was issued on 2nd March 2002 at Patna on the occasion of National Seminar on Art of Bhagwan Mahavir.

On the occasion of Third year Pattabhisheka Vardhanthyutsava of His Holiness Swastisri Charukeerthi Bhattarakha Panditacharyavarya Swamiji of Sri Jain Muth, Moodabidri (Karnataka), a first day cover was released by Sri Raichand Khatera President of the Oswal Jain Parishad, Bangalore on the 29th of August 2002 here at Moodabidri. The Indian Postal Department has also provided a special pictorial cancellation. This beautiful cover depict photographs of famous Tribhuvan Tilak Chudamani Temple (Thousand Pillars Temple) and Bhattarakha Swamiji. The cancellation bears line sketches of Tirthankar with cow & lion drinking water jointly in the same pot.

 

On the occasion of 133rd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a special cover has been issued by the Indian Postal Department on 2-10-2002 at Patna. This special cover is also related to JAINISM. On the special cover, two pictures are printed. In first picture Gandhiji is sitting with renowned Jain spiritual Saint Shrimad Rajchandraji and in second picture Gandhiji is sitting with famous poet Gurudeo Ravindranath Tagore. Significance of these two pictures are - Before going to U.K. for higher studies, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi met with Jain spiritual Saint Shrimad Ramchandraji who taught him about TRUTH & NON-VIOLENCE which led him to be

 a "MAHATMA". On 18th Feb. 1940 Gandhiji and Baa visited Shantiniketan where Guru Ravindranath Tagore addressed his for the first time as "MAHATMA".

Indian Postal Department also provided a special cancellation on this cover which bears most beloved slogan of Mahatma Gandhi "ISHWAR ALLAH TERO NAAM, SABKO SANMATI DE BHAGWAN".Shri Naresh Kumar Jain and Shri Pradip Jain of Patna were instrumental in issuance of this special cover.
