DEOGARH
Main Deity-
Nearly 12 feet 6 inches
high, Light red coloured idol of Bhagawan Shantinatha in the Padmasana posture.
History- It is said that this place was constructed by the
Gods and hence the name Deogarh. It was named so in during the 13th century.
Here we can find many stone inscriptions belonging to the period from 8th to
15th century. Among them the stone inscription in eight languages is a unique of
its kind. Also we can find many idols of tirthankaras, yaksha and yakshi. Most
of the sculptors found here belong to the period of the Guptas. On the hill a
total of 39 temples can be found. We can also find many ancient artistic
idols at the Government archeological museum.
Guidance-The temples are found on a hill on the banks of the river Betva at a distance of 3 kilometers from the Devgadh village. Devgadh is situated at a distance of 31 kilometers from Lalitpur. Boarding and lodging available at Devgadh.
