KAUSHAMBI
Main
Deity- About 2 feet high, white colored idol of Bhagawan Padmaparbha in the
Padmasana posture in the Swetambara Temple and the idol of Bhagawan Padmaprabha
in the Digambar Temple.
History- The history of this place dates back to the times of Bhagawan
Padmaprabha. According to the Digambara sect, it is said that it was the land of
four Kalyanas of Bhagawan Padmaprabha, also God Kuber had constructed the first
samavasarana of the Bhagawan. Bhagawan Mahavira has also visited this place many
times and also a samavasarana of Bhagawan Mahavira is also found here. We can
find a mention of this place in the ’Vividh Tirth kalpa’ and many other books
and inscriptions written between the 14th century and18th century. Kaushambi
once ruled by king Shtani during the period of Bhagawan Mahavira was an
important Jain heritage centre and was surrounded by the fort with twenty gates
built by Maharani Mrugavathi. But now we can only find the ruins of this fort
with the big city transformed into a small village. Kaushambi is also the birth
place of Kapil Kevali.
Guidance- Kaushambi is situated at a distance of 1 Kilometer from the Gadhva Koshal village on the bank of the river Yamuna and it is a distance of 64 kilometers from Allahabad.
