Khambhat

    History – The ancient name of Khmbhat was Trambavatinagar. This place, has a glorious and ancient history. In the times of Kalikalasarvajna Hemchandracharya, a large number of wealthy Jains lived here. They built many temples. Udayan, the advisor of King Kumarpal, belonged to this place. This is the birth – place of the poet Risabhadasji. He has written many books and songs related to Jainism. According to Jain inscriptions, this idol has a very old history. Between the times of the twentieth Tirthankara and of the twenty-fourth Tirthankara, many miraculous events have taken place in this place. There is a mention that the idol of Sthambhan Parshwanatha was formally installed in the year 1111 of the Vikram era and later it was reinstalled in the year 1165 and lastly the Sangha reinstalled it in the year 1630. Its last renovation was accomplished in the year 1984 of the Vikram era under the auspices of His Holiness Acharya Nemisurisvarji. The water used in bathing this idol cured the body of Shri Abhaydersurishvarji from diseases. The annual function is celebrated here on the third day of the bright half of the month of Fagan. Besides this temple, there are sixteen Jain temples. The Hemachandracharya Smrutimandir is also here. Artistic idols found during the excavation are found in the temple of Bhagawan Chintamani Parshwanatha.

    How to Reach – The temple is situated in the Kharvada Street of the city of Khmbhat. The Khmbhat railway station is at a distance of nearly two miles from the temple. Khmbhat is at a distance of 80 kilometers from Vadodara. There is a Dharmashala in Dantarvada at a short distance from the temple.

    Main Deity – 23 cms high, blue – colored idol of Bhagawan Sthambhan Parshwanath in the Padmasana posture.
