Kothara

    History – This sacred place belongs to the group of the five sacred places of the Abadasa Taluk. On the thirteenth day of the bright half of the month of Magh in the year 1918 of the Vikram era, the idol of Bhagawan Mahavira was formally installed by Acharya Ratnasagarsuriji of Achalagachha. The writer of the poem ‘Kesharji Nayak’ on the Shetrunjay temple originated from this place. This temple is also named ‘Kalyan Tonk’. Around this temple, there is a high fort with five cells. The double – storied temple is very well carved and attractively sculptured.

    How to Reach – The temple is situated in the Jain street in the center of the Kothara village. One can reach here from Mandavi via Suthera. Bhuj is 80 Kms from here. Buses and taxis easily go up and down. There are Dharmashala and Bhojanashalas.

    Main Deity – Nearly 3 feet high, white – colored idol of Bhagawan Shantinatha in the Padmasana posture.
