Dambala

    History – Called as Dharmapura, Dharmapuri and Dharmavolal in the history pages. Dambala was one of the chief centres of Jainism and Shaivism. Inside the fort is found of this place is found a Jain temple which is in a mutilated state. Looking at the situation of the temple here the archeological department personal have shifted the idol of a tirthankara to the well organized museum at Lakkundi. In this place are seen the inscriptions depicting the importance that was given to Jainism by the royal dynasty during the period of the Kalyana Chalukyas. At the Doddabasappa temple one of the famous temples of the place are found the Jain idols in the mutilated state.

    How to Reach – This place comes under the Mundargi taluk. And is at a distance of 18 Kms from it and at a distance of 21 Kms from Gadag.
