Gajpantha

    History – Seven Balbhadra ascetics and many other Jain ascetics have attained salvation from this place. This place is named as Gajpantha after the Jain Ascetic Gajsukumar who has attained salvation from this place. Inscriptions say that this place has a very ancient history. In the ninth century of the Vikrama era, Chamraj Odeyar, the king of the Mysore state renovated this place. Hence this place is also called Chamarleni. Leni means Cave in the local language. A new Temple dedicated to Lord Parshwanatha was recently built at this place.

    How to Reach – The temple is situated on a hill of the village Masrul near Nasik. The nearest railway station of Nasik Road is at a distance of 20 kilometers from here. Masrul is at a distance of 7 kilometers from the foot of the hill. Board and lodging provisions are available at the foot of the hill.

    Main Deity – Nearly 5 feet 1 inch high black colored idol of Bhagawan Parshwanath in the semi Padmasana posture.
