Kannangudi

History – A fine sculpture of Mahavira is reported to have come from the village. The image is seated on a simhasana in padmasana posture. Decorative features like the semi-circular prabhavali, creeper design and triple umbrella are beautifully depicted in this carved relief. The contemplative calmness of the face, the half-closed eyes suggesting dhyana, broad shoulders, the sturdiness of the torso, etc., all exhibit the style of the eleventh century. Unfortunately, the lips, lower part of the, chin, and the right palm are partially damaged.

How to Reach – Kannangudi is situated in the Pudukkottai region of Tamil Nadu.
