12th century sculpture of Jain seer found in Sorab

    Shivamogga (Karnataka), November 8, 2016: A 12th century sculpture of Jain seer (Theerthahnkara), sitting in a meditation position carved in 4×4 feet stone slab, was found at a house construction site at Malur village near Shiralakoppa in Sorab taluk.

    According to locals, the village is a historic place and many sculptures have been found here in the past. They believe that it must have been a ce ntre of a Jain seer during that period. H Rames h, a teacher, said the sculpture is very attractive and intact except for a damage to the upper portion. He said the villagers have requested Veerendra Heggade of Dharmasthala to help them construct a temple near the site where the sculpture was found.
