Shrut Panchami Mahotsav celebrations in Allahabad

Allahabad (Uttar Pradesh), June 13, 2013: Shrut Panchami Mahotsav was celebrated by the Jain community under the aegis of Padmaprabhu Digambar Jain Prabhashgiri Teerth Kshetra, Kaushambi in the presence of Jain Acharya Panchkalyanak Sagar and Aarjav Sagar Muni with gaiety and fervour in the city on Thursday.

The program commenced with Saraswati Pujan, Shruta Skand Vidhan and Palki Yatra of Jinvani Ma followed by aarti and bhajan.

While addressing the gathering on the occasion Aarjav Sagar Muni said the Jain Aagam tradition was being followed by the people since ages after the nirvana of Lord Mahavira. In the first century BC Acharya Dharatsen exhorted two learned Jain sages, Pushpdant and Bhootbali to compile and document Shrut Gyan to save it from extinction. The two sages completed the above task on Shatkhandagam of Jyestha Panchami and the day is remembered as Shrut Panchami. The Shatkhandagam holds importance for members of the Jain community as Gita for Hindus, Quran for Muslims, Guru Granth Sahib for Sikhs and Bible for Christians.

He added that holy texts are referred to as ‘Agam’ in Jain philosophy and it means that what has been said by you, compiled by stalwarts and written by Jain Munis is Agam. – News Courtesy: Times of India
