Gommatagiri Bahubali’s 64th Masthakabhisheka

    Gommatagiri (Mysore Dsitrict, Karnataka), October 18, 2013: The 64th annual Masthakabhisheka of the 16 feet high monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali at Sri Kshetra Gommatagiri will be performed on Sunday October 20, 2013 in the presence and guidance of His Holiness Swasti Sri Devendrakeerthi Bhattarakha Swamiji the pontiff of Hombuja Jain Math. The Masthakabhisheka is scheduled to begin from 12.00 noon. The idol will be anointed with 108 Kalashas followed by Panchamrutha abhisheka.

    About Gommatagiri – Gommatagiri in an anceint Jain Heritage Centre near Mysore famous for its monolithic statue of 16 feet high Sri Gommateshwara situated at the top of a hill called Shravana Gudda.The standing snakes with their hoods om either side of the statue are very attractive and unique of the Gommata sculptors seen in India.Though we cannot find an details about the idols installation and its antiquity it is said that Chengalvas and Kongalvas enshrined the place. Gommtagiri is situated at a distance of 23 Kms from Mysore.
