Sallekhana/Santhara Case Supreme Court of India STAYED the Rajasthan High Court Order & Granted LEAVE

    New Delhi, August 31, 2015: Supreme Court of India stayed the Rajasthan High Court order which termed the Jain religious ritual Santhara (fast unto death) as illegal.

    It can be recalled here that the Rajasthan High Court had in its judgement in August 2015 had made Santhara punishable under section 306 and 309 IPC (abatement of suicide).

    LEAVE Granted – Further the Supreme court has granted a LEAVE in this connection which means Jains can continue to practice this ritual under further notices from the Honourable Court.
