Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 5th September 2025: The Research Foundation for Jainology, Chennai, invites scholars, students, researchers, and enthusiasts to apply for its Certificate Course in Jain Art and Architecture. The programme will be conducted from 3 October to 22 November 2025 and is designed to offer an academically rigorous introduction to the study of Jain heritage.

This eight-week course provides a unique opportunity to engage with the history, philosophy, art, and architecture of Jainism, combining online lectures with a practical field visit to Jain heritage sites.

- Mode: Online lectures with a concluding two-day field visit
- Duration: 32 hours, comprising 16 lectures over 8 weeks
- Schedule: Weekend classes
- Course Fee: INR 8,000 per participant
- Candidate contribution: INR 5,000
- INR 3,000 sponsored by the Research Foundation
Curriculum Overview:
The course offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary study of Jain art and architecture, with emphasis on historical, cultural, and philosophical contexts. Topics include:
- Antiquity and historical evolution of Jainism
- Unique Jain structural forms and monuments
- Jaina iconography and symbolism
- Stupas, caves, and rock-cut architecture
- Jain epigraphy and inscriptions
- Jaina art, sculpture, and paintings
- Temples and temple architecture
- State-wise survey of Jain temples and heritage sites across India
Special Feature:
Participants will gain hands-on exposure to Jain art and architecture through a guided field visit to important Jain heritage centres. This experiential component is designed to connect theoretical study with direct observation of sites, sculptures, inscriptions, and architectural styles.
