Heritage and Inscriptions of Udayagiri – Khandagiri Jain Caves

Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves have an ancient history that dates to 2nd century B.C., the period of Kalinga Jaina ruler Kharavela. Many practices, Jain deities and auspicious symbols are also depicted in these caves. The earliest reference to ‘Namokara Mantra’ and ‘Bharatavarsha’ are seen in the Kharavela’s inscriptions. Dr. Porwal will take us through the heritage and inscriptions found at this historically important Jain site.
